Newcomer Monisha Vijaykumar fondly remembers being on the film sets of her father, Kannada actor Vijay Kumar, as a child. She confidently declared to those around her that one day she would become an actor. Despite her father's initial opposition to this career path, destiny now sees her in a film directed by him.
Having recently graduated from the New York Film Academy, Monisha reflects on how the course went above and beyond her expectations. Originally interested in learning acting, she also gained training in editing and direction, providing her with a deeper understanding of the filmmaking process. Her main goal after completing the course was to secure a role in a film.
In her debut film, City Lights, Monisha portrays a young, dreamy girl. While some may question her choice to not opt for a glitzy role, she prioritizes being acknowledged as a performer over glamour. Returning home presented its own set of challenges for Monisha, who fretted over landing her first opportunity. Her father observed quietly until he surprised her by offering her a role in his next film, City Lights. She was both relieved and amazed by this gesture, as she had never imagined he would cast her. He wanted her to earn the opportunity and face uncertainty before granting it to her.
